At the Frang Bardhi High School in Mitrovica, PVPT conducted the fifth Human Trafficking awareness session, as an activity to mark the National Campaign 2019 against Trafficking in Human Beings in Kosovo in 2019. During this awareness session, students had the opportunity to learn about trends, risks, safeguards, institutions that combat trafficking in human beings, and to understand more about migration and the risks of trafficking during illegal migration.

EU STANDS WITH TRAFFICKING SURVIVORS

Ambassador Apostolova had a good meeting today with Gjakova/Djakovica Mayor, Ardian Gjini. They discussed the #EU support to the municipality: and in particular about EU-funded new heating plant which will provide high quality heating for 40 percent of population by 2020. They also talked about helping trafficking survivors, missing persons families, and communities.Ambassador Apostolova also met some of the survivors of human trafficking. "Your courage to break from trafficking, work and earn for your families is an inspiration to all. I invite the society and the authorities to provide a bigger support for them," said Ambassador Apostolova as she thanked the civil society activists and media for supporting these category.

WORKSHOP FOR THE REVIEW AND REVISION OF SOPs

On 28 and 29 October 2019 a workshop for the review and revision of SOPs took place in Prizren, with the participation of 15 officials representing: Kosovo Police, Prosecutor Office, Ministry of Labour and Social Welfare, State Shelter for Victims of Trafficking , PVPT, shelter for children Hope and Homes, Ministry of Health, Ministry of Public Administration, Victim Advocate's Office, and Kosovo Judicial Council. Both days of the workshop were very interactive and productive, taking into consideration that the whole group of participants contributed to the revision of SOPs, and the changes were made directly in the current document based on the latest developments and the current circumstances.

WORKSHOPS HELD FOR LAW ENFORCEMENT AND JUDICIAL AUTHORITIES TO BETTER TACKLE TRAFFICKING

EPLO, one the implementing partners of the Moving Forward project held 7 workshops for judicial and law enforcement authorities, between September and December of 2018. Topics covered in workshops for law enforcement authorities included understanding trafficking victims, observing the victim’s perspective, interacting with victims, asking questions and overcoming difficulties in interaction. Judicial authorities were presented with topics such as general information on trafficking, victims as witnesses, setting the framework of discussions, asking questions, and understanding trafficking victims better. 84 participants benefited from the workshops in municipalities of Prishtina, Mitrovica, Prizren, Ferizaj, and Mitrovica.

ANTI-TRAFFICKING CAMPAIGN SUPPORTED SUCCESSFULLY BY THE EU’S MOVING FORWARD PROJECT

In 2018, Moving Forward project successfully coordinated jointly with Kosovo institutions and civil society a Kosovo wide campaign to increase the awareness of citizens on trafficking trends and risks. Among activities from the grantees, the project implemented a wide social media campaign, with the support of digital posters that were posted daily in the month long campaign, each carrying a message or a statistic about trafficking, in Albanian and Serbian languages. An opening conference was organised with participation of highest level of Kosovo government and EU Office in Kosovo. During the 2018 national campaign to promote the fight against trafficking of human beings in Kosovo, PVPT Center, an implementing partner in Moving Forward project,  implemented 5 awareness rising presentations with 160 students of University for Business and Technology-UBT in Prishtina, Ferizaj, Gjilan, Prizren, and in FAMA University in the region of Mitrovica. The awareness raising sessions with students aimed to sensitize the targeted audience regarding the negative phenomenon of human trafficking, the recent trends, the risk of being trapped and becoming a victim of human trafficking  while traveling or illegal migration, institutions who combat human trafficking in Kosovo and the significance of reporting cases to the Kosovo Police. Through the support of Moving Forward project, the grantees from the project grant scheme to support trafficking victims in Kosovo participated in the national anti-trafficking campaign in October/November 2018 through activities within each of the project of grantees.    These are some of the selected activities that were held in the month long campaign: One of the grantees from the grant scheme of the Moving Forward project, the Center for Art and Community – Artpolis, together with the youth of Gjilan municipality, as a part of the anti-trafficking campaign produced the theatre play "I'm not for sale". 18 OCTOBER – EU ANTI-TRAFFICKING DAY

On 18 October 2018, Kosovo institutions and EU officially launched a nationwide campaign to promote the fight against trafficking of human being in Kosovo. The campaign was launched with a high level conference attended by Head of the EU Office in Kosovo and the EU Special Representative, Nataliya Apostolova, Kosovo’s President President Thaçi and Prime Minister Haradinaj, joined by all the relevant Ministers of the Kosovo government. The conference highlighted key progresses made in the fight against trafficking in Kosovo, as well as the continuous challenges in addressing this national and transnational problem affecting the very fabric of Kosovo’s society. GRANTEES SELECTED FOR MOVING FORWARD PROJECT AND TRAININGS HELD TO SUPPORT THEIR PROJECT IMPLEMENTATION

At a contract signing ceremony at the Ministry of Internal Affairs on 20 June 2018, the finalists for grants with the purpose of helping victims of trafficking were officially announced. The overall purpose of the call for proposals was to increase the range and quality of social care and protection services for victims of trafficking in a sustainable way, with emphasis on social inclusion and their reintegration. Out of a very competitive process of project applications, 5 winning organizations have been selected which implemented supportive and preventive activities for the existing and potential victims of trafficking throughout Kosovo. The winning organizations were Artpolis, Center for Promoting Women's Rights, Hopes and Homes for Children - Kosovo, NGO Network "Qeliza", and Liria.
