Moving Forward project selects grants finalists to help victims of trafficking

5 organizations in Kosovo will help the existing and potential victims of trafficking through grant funding allocated by the "Moving Forward" EU project. The project staff and key officials from Ministry of Internal Affairs were present today at the signing ceremony, along with civil society organisations. The overall purpose of the grant scheme is to increase the range and quality of social care and protection services for existing and potential victims of trafficking in a sustainable way, with emphasis on social inclusion and their reintegration. CONFERENCE ON THE OCCASION OF THE 10TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE ENTRY INTO FORCE OF THE COUNCIL OF EUROPE CONVENTION ON ACTION AGAINST TRAFFICKING IN HUMAN BEINGS

In May 2018, a EU level conference  was launched with the purpose to showcase the impact that the Convention has had on States Parties’ law, policy and practice, and in particular on improving the situation and rights of victims of trafficking. An emphasis was given on the human rights-based and victim-centred approach of the Convention and the positive obligations on States to prevent trafficking, protect victims, prosecute traffickers and engage in partnerships in order to achieve the purposes of the Convention. EU’s Moving Forward project on 22 January 2018 officially launched the call for proposals Social Inclusion and Economic Reintegration of Victims of trafficking (VOT)/Presumed victims of trafficking (PVOT)”. The Call aims to increase the range and quality of social care and protection services for existing and presumed victims of trafficking, with emphasis on social inclusion and reintegration. Non-profit organisations which would like to extend their services to victims of trafficking can apply in 2 lots. The first lot will support needs of trafficking victims in daily social life, with projects supported up to 30.000 EUR, and the second lot covers self-sufficiency needs of trafficking victims with grant sizes offered up to 10.000 EUR. Improved psychological treatment of potential and existing victims of trafficking

Starting from 17 January 2018, the Center for Protection of Victims and Prevention of Trafficking in Human Beings (PVPT), our project partner, began to offer training to Kosovo’s centers for social work and shelters for victims of trafficking in improving their services in psychological treatment of potential and existing victims of trafficking. Training is being implemented in 7 regions of Kosovo, namely Prishtina, Mitrovica, Prizren, Gjakova, Peja, Gjilan, and Ferizaj, including all the towns within these regions. Up to 140 social workers and shelters are expected to benefit from trainings.  Beneficiaries are learning more about various aspects of psychological treatment of trafficking victims, which is crucial to their integration in society. Training to be provided for rule of law institutions

The EU project has successfully identified the capacity building needs of rule of law institutions in Kosovo in strengthening institutional response to the fight against trafficking in human beings, with the engagement and mobilization of international and local experts. Based on the identified needs from the needs assessment, a training programme has been designed and planned in close coordination with the beneficiaries, namely the National Authority against Trafficking of Human Beings and its Office, the Kosovo Police, the Prosecutor’s Office, the Judicial Council, the Judicial Institute and other institutions. A four-days training was held in the beginning of December 2017 to benefit the staff of the Office of National Coordinator against Trafficking of Human Beings (ONATC), focused on strategic planning, monitoring and evaluation, as well as review of the ONATC terms of references (TORs). The main purpose of the training was to develop the strategic capacities of the key Kosovo institution responsible for coordinating anti trafficking efforts, enabling it to further increase its capacities in managing its work. The EU project also designed monitoring and evaluation tools to support the implementation of Kosovo’s anti-trafficking strategy and the action plan. Annual Anti-Trafficking campaign launched in Kosovo

Kosovo institutions officially launched the annual campaign against trafficking on 18 October 2017, marking EU’s Anti Trafficking Day, with the conference that gathered the highest Kosovo officials, including Prime Minister Haradinaj, as well as EU representatives, namely Nataliya Apostolova, Head of the EU Office in Kosovo.
